The University of Wyoming offers several learning and outreach programs to the residents and visitors of Laramie, WY. The Geological Museum is just one of several museums and learning centers that are open to the general public, and it serves to inform all that visit about the rich history of Wyoming and its geologic treasures. There is a wide collection of dinosaur fossils, which will delight people of all ages. You can see Big Al, the Allosaurus, a Stegosaurus, an Apatosaurus, a Triceratops, a Diatryma gigantean, and a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
The Geological Museum is located on the West Campus, near 9th and Lewis. You will find it near the SH Knight Geology Building, the Earth Sciences Building, and they Wyoming Geological Survey. There is ample parking available on Lewis Street and in the metered lots nearby. You can request a day parking permit from the Transit & Parking Services Department.
The museum also hosts tours for school children throughout the year, and the length of the tour depends on the age of the school children. If you are interested in signing up for one of the public school tours, keep in mind that the guided tours are only available on weekdays between one and four in the afternoon.
The Geological Museum is made possible by the Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Wyoming, but you can make sure that future generations will be able to enjoy the many learning activities that are available. The museum can only grow with the help of generous donors, so you may consider helping with your own gift to the museum. If you are interested, you can designate a gift to the Geological Museum Samuel H. Knight Memorial Endowment. Very soon, the museum will also welcome members, where you can enjoy benefits from your generosity.
