Outdoor lovers can enjoy a day in the sun and even learn a few things. The Ames Monument is a favorite outdoor excursion. The Ames Monument was completed in 1882 by the Union Pacific Railroad Company. The sixty-foot tall pyramid cast $65,000 to build, and it stands on the highest elevation of the original Union Pacific transcontinental route.

The Medicine Bow National Forest is also located to the west of Laramie, Wyoming. You and your family or friends can enjoy a whole day of hiking, while enjoying the breathtaking scenery of the state. You may even catch glimpses of wildlife, if you’re lucky. The forest, along with the Thunder Basin National Grassland, covers nearly three million acres, so you will need return trips to see it all.
