With a multitude of annual events in Laramie, locals and visitors will always have exciting activities. Traditional festivals and occasions provide some really fun times for all. This year marked the 70th Annual Laramie Jubliee Days, which was originally established as a celebration of Wyoming’s statehood. Events during Jubilee Days include such wholesome activities as horse racing and shows, a rodeo, street dances, a downtown parade, carnival rides, bull riding, a chili cook-off, and various other events benefitting local organizations and charities.
September brings the annual Wyoming Buddy Walk, developed by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995. Walkers raise pledges to benefit the NDSS, and there are prizes for those participants who gather the most donations. With almost 900 walkers in 2009, the association was able to raise over $90,000 to help raise awareness, educate parents, establish support groups, and provide health care guidelines for physicians and families.
The Annual Wine Gala and Taste of Laramie, benefitting Hospice of Laramie, is a wonderful way to support this organization while sampling regional wine and foods. Proceeds from the event help provide excellent care for Hospice patients and families.
WyoTech hosts an Annual Car Show and Open House in May, showcasing vintage and unique cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Entering your vehicle into this show is free, as is admission to the show. There is a barbeque lunch, proceeds from which benefit the WyoTech Student Food Pantry. Awards are given for Best Street Rod, Automotive Choice, and more.
The Wyoming Coalition for the Homeless holds its annual Walk in My Shoes to benefit those who are in need of shelter and food. This is a day of education, fun, food, and a two mile walk. Come out and have a great time while helping to raise funds for those who are less fortunate.
